BPORT REDEVELOPMENT

BPORT
REDEVELOPMENT

A partnership between People’s
United Bank and the City of
Bridgeport to promote 21st century economic growth and development in a downtown known formerly as the home
of P.T. Barnum, Frisbie Pie
Company, Singer Sewing
Machine and Columbia Records.

Objective

Attract more visitors to Bridgeport’s newest arts, entertainment, dining
and event offerings by building greater awareness of Bridgeport’s revitalization success stories.

Solution

Using the expertise of the bank’s
graphic design department, develop fresh, new marketing strategies and channels for an awareness campaign targeting visitors, bank employees and
the community at large. The
transformation is grounded
in the abbreviated, hipper designation: “bport.”

Concept

A brand identity is envisioned
that honors Bridgeport’s colorful
and innovative industrial past while
celebrating the city’s renaissance
and recent achievements. Incorporate historic imagery of Bridgeport against vibrant splashes of color that convey energy and optimism about the future.

Outcome

Visually engaging images incorporating the new brand
were created for the city and the bank to promote businesses and attractions. These resources
increased bookings of dinners, private parties and events for restaurants, as well as attendance at the theater, shops and galleries. Visitors and locals referenced the new info guide and walking map. Bank employees took advantage
of the Employee Discounts
program which offered incentives
to patronize participating businesses and venues.

WELCOME GUIDE

A guide to highlight downtown Bridgeport’s ever-growing multitude of dining destinations, attractions,
and shops reminds visitors, employees and local residents they can visit galleries, catch a show, or watch
a sports event right in downtown “bport.” Collaboration on this guide demonstrates the continued role
of People’s United Bank as a vital community partner in Bridgeport for more than 170+ years.

COMMUNITY COMMITMENT

Promote local opportunities within downtown.

DOWNTOWN MAP

Map that lived inside guide served as a quick reference for the city's hot spots being revitalized.

T-SHIRT + TOTE DESIGNS

Inspired by the smokestack and electric company along Bridgeport's harbor.

DESIGN TECHNIQUE

Photographed United Illuminating’s striped smokestack in Bridgeport’s industrial harbor. Converted color digital
image to black & white, then utilized a Photoshop filter for a rubber stamp appearance. Scanned a city map
converting the image into a transparency to serve as the background. Once map and image were combined
made multiple black & white copies on thick card stock, experimenting with random paint strokes and splashes
of vibrant colors.
